Welcome Letter

The Ontario CAP YI program has taken the suggestions of previous Youth Interns to create a province-wide resource of CyberCamps and other training manuals. Our collection of resources is slowly growing, but we need you to help us out. We've created this Wiki so that all of the Youth in the province can add their ideas and share their success.

This site will be only as great as you make it, so please contribute your ideas and resources, and we will start a snowball of incredible ideas all across Ontario. Youth commented that all of their time was spent researching and preparing basic camps like how to use Word, or how to use e-mail. The idea behind this wiki, is that if everyone contributes their camps/resources/ideas, research can then be spent on more unique programs, making the CAP YI program even more valuable to the community.

Industry Canada has added an emphasis on advertising and spreading the word about your local CAP site, so we have started a section of this Wiki dedicated to Promotional Materials. If you have created a poster, or an ad, or a really great way to create awareness about the CAP program then please share!

Need to run a Camp but don't know how to get started? Contact your Regional Co-ordinator for ideas and suggestions. Not really sure what CAP in Ontario is? Not sure how to get in touch with your Regional Co-ordinator, here is a list of Networks and their Regional Co-ordinators. Want to learn more about CAP in general, check out Overview. You can also learn more about your role in the program as a Site Operator or a Youth Intern.

Good luck and thank you for contributing!

How to Contribute

A Wiki is simply a webpage that is editable from your web browser. That means that you can add and correct information that you see on these pages!

This Ontario CAP wiki was created so that youth workers all over Ontario can share their ideas with each other. We've gotten it started for you with the help of youth from Network 1 in 2005-2006, and their Regional Co-ordinator Karena Thorburn. Now it's your turn! This website will only be as good as you make it.

Getting Started

  1. you need to log in, it is located at the upper right of the screen.
  2. find the appropriate page to index your idea, ie if your CyberCamps is for Children go to the Children page.
  3. click Edit beside the appropriate heading this will put you into an editing page. There is very little code that you need to know to add your title.
  4. to make your camp part of the list put a star * in front of your camp title.
  5. to make a link put your title in between two square brackets "" and ""
  6. click on preview at the bottom of the page, and if it looks alright, choose Save Page. Now on the page there will be a red hyperlink. If you click on that link it will automatically take you to the editing window of your new page.
  7. when you are done adding content to your new page, be sure to add a category tag by using "[[Category:CategoryName]]"
  8. to create a new wiki page, enter the page name in the address bar after "title=". This will give you a message that no content yet exists for the page you've created and you can edit away from there.
