Happy December!!
With the program now fully underway, it is time to share our resources, ideas and success stories with the rest of the province. If any sites have any promotional materials please submit them to your RC, or if there any resources that have helped throughout a CAP placement please post them on the cybercamp wiki. Each month the newsletter will feature different CAP sites from around the province to help celebrate achievements made through CAP and to inspire other sites to create fun and interesting programs. Make sure you are also checking out the resources available on the Cybercamp Wiki and posting your questions and comments to the Webboard. ENJOY! :)

Social utility networks making learning fun and informative!!
As CAP continues Nicole Glover of the West Nippising Public Library has busy making lessons fun and informative for her students. -"I've been teaching one particular lady the basics on the computer each week, and just recently introduced her to YouTube. Wow, has she had a wonderful connection with that site! She had asked me if we had any "music videos" of several old Quebec singers at our library, and that's when I suggested YouTube. She couldn't get over how amazing it was. Ever since then, she has been coming to our library every Saturday afternoon to listen to some music on YouTube. It's funny because when she has her headphones on she's totally in her little world. Last week, she almost started to sing aloud!" Keep up the great Work Nicole!!

Tips on résumé building helping teens find jobs
I helped one of the teens with his very first résumé yesterday. That was fun. He asked some good questions, and I pointed out a few things about how the interview would likely go. I wish him all the best, and we'll hear how it went next week at the weekly teen night!

Great work Wade

CAP Youth Intern helping the eldery learn new technology
I've worked in sales for a very long time. One of my favourite jobs
was selling digital cameras. While I worked there I got to teach people how
to use their camera. Most of the other workers would get me to do the
lessons because they didn't like taking the time, but I loved it. Sometimes
It was a bit disheartening when I sold to the elderly because they
would come in and just ask for the most simplistic and automatic camera.
They would act like they did not want to learn anything new.
Since I've joined CAP I've been meeting with elders who are very excited to learn. It has
been awesome being able to meet with them and teach them all the different
functions of their computers.
This Wednesday I actually started a Digital Photography group session and we had 9 people
show up! This is a small library so we were packed and all of the people were so excited
to learn all the different settings of their camera. They came eager
to learn new things and had a willingness to explore.
I think the main thing that holds people back in learning is fear. They are afraid they
will do something wrong or wreck something and not be able to put things
back to the way they were. Now, they don't have that fear since
they have learned it's as easy as the turn of a knob on their camera to go
back to automatic. I am excited for the next session because we are
going around town taking pictures!
-Shawn H Witte, Callander Public Library
Keep up the great work Shawn!!!

Christmas Cooking CyberCamp
CHRISTMAS COOKING!
Age Group: 18+
Time: About 1.5 hrs
Description: The patrons attending the cybercamp may not be familiar with computers, so it is a good idea to begin the cybercamp with an overview of "how to search for recipes...using a search engine."
Example Lesson plan: Here's how it works: You tell the search engine (i.e. www.google.ca) what you're looking for by typing in keywords, phrases, or questions in the search box. The search engine responds by giving you a list of all Web pages relating to your topic. The most relevant content will appear at the top of your results, so remember to be specific!
Practice: - Type Oatmeal Raisin Cookies in to the search bar on www.google.ca - A list of web pages will appear in order of relevance to your keywords - Select one of the web pages by clicking on the link
Go back to Google (click the green back arrow in the top left corner)
- If you don’t know the specific name of the recipe you are looking for try typing in a theme. (i.e. Christmas Cooking, holiday recipe ideas, Christmas recipes etc.)
After The patrons have learned how search for recipes allow them time to search and write down or "COPY & PASTE" recipes they like. After some time of searching have the patrons share their recipes with each other. I also thought it would be fun to bring in a recipe that I had found online earlier. (Nothing too difficult to make of course! Cookies, squares, a punch...)
Check out the links below for some places to find recipes online.
