HAPPY HALLOWEEN Cappers,
We are already on the third issue of the exciting Ontario CAP newsletter. Make sure you are staying in the loop by reading the last issues (now available online at the main CAP website- http://capstats.ocl.net/cgi-bin/serve_page.cgi?page=newsletter). Any feedback is greatly appreciated so be sure to let your RC's know what you think! Also, everyone has the chance to be included in the newsletter, so make sure to report to your RC on a weekly basis about the events at your site for your opportunity to be featured in upcoming editions. This issue will focus on some important tips and tricks for new youth workers, created by a dedicated youth at the Elgin County Public Library, as well as, an examination of the mutually beneficial relationship between the Community Access Program and the West Perry Sound Health Center. Also, being October already it is time to get prepared for Halloween, with some fun ideas for spooky/fun cybercamps used in past CAP years. We are really in full swing here with CAP so make sure you are staying informed and continue to be involved in all the wonderful things happening across Ontario. Be sure to regularly check the CAP wiki and webboard (both accessible through http://capstats.ocl.net) for great ideas and additional resources.

POWERPOINT PRESENTATION- CAP Orientation: Elgin County Public Library- Bayham
Youth Intern: Aleksa Berzinis and Jennifer Loos
Over the past few CAP years these two youth workers have collaborated and put together an informative and helpful tutorial on how to get started "Capping." The beginning of the program can be very overwhelming with so much information being given to new youth interns, but this presentation helps to break down the job and provides some great ideas on how to manage everything while still having fun! The full powerpoint presentation will be available online next to the October issue at the main CAP website http://capstats.ocl.net so be sure to check it out and download your own copy. You could create your own powerpoint presentation as a CAP activity. The slides in this presentation include Regional Coordinator information, helpful hints, how to contact other youth interns around Ontario, lesson plans, ideas for kids and seniors and other tutorial suggestions. It is very informative and definitely shows that CAP is positively impacting people around the province. GREAT WORK! :)

Digital Photo Workshop:
Youth Intern: Thomas Stanova Site: Burk’s Falls, Armour and Ryerson Union Public Library
Tom held a very successful advanced digital photo workshop as a follow-up to a successful photo class held at his CAPsite earlier this year. The workshop focused on manipulating the flash and zoom capabilities on the camera. They also explored how to take photos in pitch black and have them develop as though they were taken in broad daylight. This cool experiment was definitely a highlight! :). Additionally, Tom showed the patrons how to take action shots without blurring their appearance. Finally, the pictures were uploaded and Tom briefly reviewed how to print, or send pictures for development. A lot of interesting and exciting things can be done to preserve your memorable moments using digital photo and various computer programs. Digital photography is enormously popular and is definitely something CAPsites should be taking advantage of. Below find pictures of the workshop. Tom has another digital photography workshop coming up, which I'm sure will be quite the success.

Halloween Cybercamp Ideas

It's that time of year again...eerie October. Fun Halloween ideas can be found on the Wiki to help your capsite really get into the spooky spirit. Safety tips, Halloween games and decoration ideas can all be found online. The internet can help make this holiday even more fun for the whole family. In preparation for Halloween you may want to research and come up with some fun ideas for various cybercamps. Some possibilities include: holding competitions for the best Halloween costume ideas found online, printing of digital Halloween pics, designing decorations on the computer, writing creative ghost stories using different fonts and other computer graphics, searching Halloween recipes etc.
